In partnership with EPIC India, the Transport Department, the Government of NCT of Delhi is organizing a high-level conference to discuss measures to address the vehicular pollution crisis in the capital.Over the past decade, Delhi has seen tremendous growth in urbanization, e-commerce activity, and first and last mile delivery requirements. Road freight emissions currently account for the majority of Delhi's total transport emissions. The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) has been taking multiple steps to improve the quality of air in Delhi and public transportation facilities in the city, with a focus on last mile connectivity, deployment of electric vehicles (EVs), and implementation of Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) emission norms for vehicles, which have shown early signs of success. Vehicular pollution control will require transformative changes in the transportation and mobility patterns in the region to reduce number and usage of vehicles, travel distances, congestion hotspots and traffic intensity. Personal and freight mobility are important aspects of economic development and therefore creates a significant footprint on the environment and the ambient air quality. Several source apportionment studies have identified vehicular pollution as a critical internal source of pollution in Delhi, particularly with respect to PM 2.5. It is therefore essential that innovative policy solutions are identified that limit vehicular pollution levels in the National Capital Territory. The objective of this round table conference is to bring together experts and key stakeholders to facilitate a platform to share learnings of the Transport Department and invite policy solutions that would enable an integrated and inclusive approach to combat vehicular pollution in the NCT of Delhi that may serve as a roadmap for other Indian cities. In this context, the Transport Department, GNCTD, in partnership with EPIC India invites you to the consultation on Combating Vehicular Pollution in NCT of Delhi, on 4th May 2023.
