EVALUATION AND IMPACT ISSUE |
|
Welcome to the December 2024 edition of the IFLA Newsletter!
As every year, in addition to the rush to get everything done, December should also be a time for celebrating successes, as well as making sure that we are drawing what lessons we can from our work over the year.
In short, we need to have a focus on impact, measuring what we have been able to achieve, and exploring what we can take into 2025 to do better still. IFLA has made a priority over the past years of building the knowledge and skills, frameworks and tools as well as habits to evaluate and demonstrate impact. This work runs from our Library Map of the World to the impact training programme, which has significantly broadened the community of librarians able to spread a culture of monitoring, evaluation and learning.
Happy reading! 📊

This month, the IFLA Governing Board met for just the second time in person this year, in The Hague, The Netherlands. You can read more about this in our President's message, as well as in our story about the event held at Tilburg Public Library.
But there was more going on outside of the Board! IFLA President Vicki McDonald and Sharon Memis both spoke at a conference on eBooks organised at the National Library of Greece as part of the Knowledge Rights 21 programme which IFLA administers. They then travelled on to Doha, Qatar for the official signing ceremony of the IFLA Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa.
Vicki also gave a virtual keynote at the University of Kerala's conference on "Libraries at the Crossroads: Balancing Tradition and Technology." In the meanwhile, GB member Dilara Begum spoke on behalf of IFLA at the I-LIPS conference at Galgotias University, India. |

Out now: Object-oriented LRM conceptual model |
| The Object-orientated Library Reference Model (LRMoo) is now available in the IFLA repository.
It was approved by the Professional Council earlier in April 2024, concluding a project launched by the Bibliographic Conceptual Models Review Group (BCM RG) in 2017, shortly after the publication of IFLA LRM.
LRMoo is a high-level, compact model that is tightly aligned with IFLA LRM and reflects its decisions about scope and granularity. |

| IFLA Guidelines for Libraries Supporting Displaced Persons: Refugees, migrants, immigrants, asylum seekers |
| The first-ever IFLA Guidelines for Libraries Supporting Displaced Persons grew from a chapter of the 2017 IFLA Guidelines for library services to people who experience homelessness. It was already clear then that libraries are at the forefront of the refugee crisis and that they can play an active role in the lives of refugees by providing access to relevant and necessary services and resources. The new guidelines offer much more insight into how to do this effectively. |
