Abstract: Frugal and grassroots innovations are relatively new entrants in the development discourse. Various scholarships, including STS, sharing unlike opinions about the development potential of these innovations. However, capturing, measuring and evaluating the impacts of these innovations are big challenge to theorise them. Methodological improvising, observing and analysing them with other development processes in an interconnected manner can be a helpful research strategy. The interactive session (talk) will attempt to underline methodological challenges and possible improvising to study/theorise frugal grassroots innovations in a development context.
About the Speaker: Birendra Singh is currently PhD candidate at International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague. His is also a PhD researcher at Leiden Delft Erasmus- Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa (CFIA), the Netherlands. His PhD talks about rainwater harvesting efforts/practices in India and Kenya from knowledge interactions and frugality lenses. Recently, he travelled Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Cambridge to present his research and completed CERES research school for international development hosted by Utrecht University, The Netherlands.
