Indraprastha Vigyan Bharati in association with Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi and Ministry of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi is organizing a two-day International Conference on the Auspicious 161^st Birth Anniversary of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray on "Contributions of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray as a Chemist and Freedom Fighter" during 2^nd-3^rd August 2022.

 

The objectives of this Conference are to expand the legacy and contribution of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray in Society with an aim to increase general awareness and background of ancient chemistry along with its importance. It is fortuitous that the Ministry of Education, Government of India is updating the education system from the traditional concept of the 80's to align with the aspirational goals of 21st century education including SDG4, while building upon India's traditions and value systems."

Abstract: As Earth's population continues to grow, remote sensing data offer a view from space of human behaviours, whether from changing the landscape through the geographical distribution of population and economic activity, deforestation and urbanization, the extent of physical as well as financial infrastructure development or modifying air quality through increases in pollutants. Remote sensing of night-time light emissions offers a unique perspective for investigations into some of these human behaviours. Night-light data are basically the visible lights emanating from the earth captured by satellites from outer space. The satellite image, which provides the brightness of the earth during the night, is now used by many economists/policymakers around the world to study economic activities; since such data by the statistics divisions often come with a lag. Several studies found that 'Night-time luminosity' can shed light on economic growth by analysing the causality and correlation with important economic activity and socio-economic indicators. Data on 'night-time luminosity' gathered by satellites potentially be a useful high-frequency indicator of economic activity in India and this data has the advantage of being highly granular and is also available much faster than the lagged indicators. Since this data is available in time series it can track both trend and seasonal variations in the economy. Night-light data can be a useful source of information for valuable macroeconomic analysis and research in India. Primary objective of this exercise is to study the association between night-time lights and socio-economic development in India at the State, sub-state, and district levels to help economic policy planning.

About the Speaker: Sambuddha has more than 13 years of experience in Research and Data Analytics with the application of various Statistical Methods, Econometrics Modelling, Data Science Techniques like Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms, Artificial Intelligence driven Modelling to develop Descriptive, Predictive, and Prescriptive analysis for incorporation into strategic decision-making both in Private and Public sectors. He has several publications to his credit which include books, book chapters, peer reviewed national and international journal articles and international major project reports in the areas of structural transformation, productivity growth, food and nutrition security, agriculture, fourth industrial revolution, poverty, health, global public goods, public policy, external assistance/ development aid and partnerships. Prior to joining, he served as Senior Manager (Data Science and Analytics) at Genpact and Data Scientist Consultant at American Express (through DAASLabs). He also served as Consultant at the Agricultural Development Economics Division (FAO Statistics Division) on Measuring Food and Nutrition Security of the Food Security Information Network (FSIN) of FAO, WFP, IFPRI; and Consultant at World Bank on the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) in India. Recently he co-authored a Book "Food for All: International Organizations and the Transformation of Agriculture", Oxford, UK. He completed M.A. in Economics (Delhi School of Economics, Delhi); and B.A. in Economics (Jadavpur University, West Bengal).

The IFLA Congress is where people come together to be inspired and energised by their colleagues, and the stories we collect are absolutely going to be worth remembering and sharing. After a two years absence, I am enthusiastic about the opportunities to finally see many of you again in Dublin in two weeks from now. The congress provides a space to discuss, in person, items that are not always easy to be discussed online. The congress shall give us the opportunity to discover and imagine the next chapter in our Federation's story. As you've started to prepare your agendas for the Congress, I'd like to share couple of thoughts: 1) A great strength of WLIC is the possibility to learn things you didn't expect to learn — to expand your experience and internationalise your professional practice. 2) Include something in your planning that you wouldn't normally engage with and discover the full richness of the library field. To put a conference of this magnitude together is no small task. Summary
This meeting will bring together an international audience of researchers motivated to improve the robustness of scientific research. It will also include important stakeholder groups such as data and services providers, tool developers, publishers, institutions and funders that are developing policies relating to research reproducibility. The overarching theme of the 2022 conference is to position the challenge of reproducibility and replicability as a behaviour-change problem that, when addressed, can lead to culture change within research. The various approaches to effecting and supporting this culture change will be explored in this year's programme. Discussions will include topics such as the challenges of ensuring reproducibility and replicability in large, multicentre research collaborations, training researchers in reproducibility, the role of policy development, tools that support reproducibility and replicability, social and behavioural aspects of culture change, local challenges to reproducibility on a global scale, and improving reproducibility and replicability leads to better-quality, transparent and more equitable research outputs, building. The format will include presentations from international leaders with ample time for discussion and debate. Abstracts on all areas of the conference are welcome for a poster or oral presentation. The participation of early career researchers will be a strong and prominent thread throughout the conference. In addition to the plenary presentations and discussion, the conference will include a panel discussion on how we could better demonstrate and measure progress in delivering more reproducible and replicable research, giving all delegates an opportunity to contribute. This conference will be a hybrid meeting – with onsite or virtual attendance. Discussions will include multicentre research collaborations, training researchers in reproducibility, tools for supporting reproducibility, social and behavioral aspects of culture change and challenges in organizing reproducibility networks at national and global scales (which might be of particular interest for this list's audience). If you would like to be part of these discussions – either in person or virtually, consider submitting an abstract by July 12 and register by August 9 (in-person) or August 31 (virtual). Registration is free for delegates based in Lower and Middle-Income Countries in order to promote more inclusive scientific discussions.

We welcome abstracts from all areas relevant to the main themes of the meeting, for both oral and poster presentations. Several oral presentations will be chosen from the abstracts submitted. Abstracts will only be considered from registered delegates. Please use our online abstract submission system and follow the instructions given to ensure your abstract is submitted correctly. All abstracts must be submitted by the deadline. You are welcome to submit a second abstract, please follow the instructions below. The scientific programme committee will assess your abstract after the deadline has passed and you will be notified whether you have been selected to present an oral or poster presentation. Poster boards onsite will accommodate 118 cm high by 84 cm wide (A0- portrait) of printed material. Accepted abstracts will appear in the conference programme book; poster board numbers will be allocated at the conference. If you have already completed your registration and subsequently wish to submit an abstract, please follow these instructions.

About the Seminar
The Society for Information Science (SIS) was formed during 1975 to promote interchange of information in the discipline of information science and its subdivision amongst the specialists and between specialists and the public. The Society aims to foster a sense of partnership amongst the professionals engaged in these fields. The Society is firmly committed to provide a congenial environment for interaction among information innovation, industry, technology management and services which are socially relevant in the interest of the Nation. The SIS functions through an Executive Committee consisting of experts from different institutions and assisted by various sub-committees for carrying out its programmes.
The SIS Annual Convention is a hallmark event of the Society. The Society is organizing this year's Annual Convention as the Seminar on 'Information Science and Communication: Opportunities, Expectations and Strategies'.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the forefront the importance of information science and science communication. The Seminar will focus on the new opportunities, expectations, and challenges in the field of information science and communication.
