Health is of course something we should value highly, especially now. We continue to live with the consequences of a very real health crisis – the COVID-19 pandemic – leaving a trail of suffering, disruption and uncertainty. While it can hardly be called a positive, the pandemic has at least made it clearer than ever that health is, to a major extent, an information issue. This edition of the newsletter therefore has a focus on health, and work underway to realise the potential of libraries to support health and wellbeing. Read the full editorial → Gerald Leitner IFLA Secretary General IN THE FIELD IFLA President Barbara Lison delivered a speech at the 32nd Arab Federation of Libraries and Information Conference, on the subject: Librarian – a Profession with many Challenges. She also offered words of welcome at the Slovenian Library Association's Čop awards for outstanding achievements in the library field. IFLA's President-elect Tonia Arahova; gave a keynote speech at the Visegrad Group conference on Impact and Influence: Cultural Innovations during COVID-19, as well as at the International Summit of the Book in Bihac, Bosnia, on the topic Books, Libraries, Internet, IFLA and COVID-19. A Visionary Pragmatic Relationship. IFLA Secretary-General Gerald Leitner, meanwhile, participated in the Annual General Meeting of Blue Shield International, highlighting the importance of safeguarding documentary heritage, and the commitment of libraries to cooperation across the heritage sector. POLICY AND ADVOCACY 20 Trends, identified by emerging library leaders Will we see the importance of virtual services and spaces reinforced, or will there be an analogue backlash? Will we see further political polarisation and undermining of expertise, or will information literacy finally be recognised and valued? Find out more in our article! → DEEP DIVE Health as a Human Right: A Global Call to Action and Practical Steps In the early months of 2020, WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus underlined that in addition to fighting a pandemic, the world also needed to reckon with an 'infodemic'. As argued by the speakers at the WLIC 2021 session on Access to health information as a human right, there is an urgent need for action to ensure that every person should have access to reliable health information and should be protected from misinformation. Read more → IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award 2022 IFLA's Management and Marketing section is proud to continue its partnership with PressReader again this year to present the IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award for creative, impactful and inspiring library marketing initiatives. The first, second, and third place winners will receive funds towards airfare, lodging, and registration to attend the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Dublin, Ireland in July 2022. First place will receive €3,000, second place will receive €2,000, and third place will receive €1,500. The submission deadline for the awards has been extended until 19 January 2022. To commemorate Swatantrata Ka Amrut Mahotsav, JNU is organizing an international conference on "Role of Indian Science in Freedom Movement" in collaboration with Vijnanabharati, NIScPR and Vigyan Prasar on 28^th Feb and 1^st March 2022. Poster/Short Articles

Workshop for authors
An online workshop on 'Research Paper Writing' will be organized 30h January 2022 for the authors whose abstracts are accepted. Full paper submission by 15th February 2022.

Dear All,

Bharti Institute of Public Policy at the Indian School of Business (ISB) launched the India Data Portal (IDP), an open-access platform for data on agriculture, rural development, financial inclusion and high frequency indicators of India's economic recovery, which allows seamless search, analysis, visualization and download of open data and the associated visualizations. In an endeavor to support data backed writings, the India Data Portal is conducting a Workshop on 12^th of January.

Since 1950, through 70 volumes, Libri: International Journal of Libraries and Information Studies has been a leader among scholarly journals in the international library and information science world. As part of its strategy to remain one of the premier library and information science journals, Libri is issuing a call for "Best Student Research Paper of 2022." This competition supports Libri's goal of publishing the best articles from the next generation of library and information science professionals. We are proud once again to recognize the very best article with this special award.

 

Students who are currently enrolled for a Masters or PhD or who have completed their Masters or PhD during the 24 months preceding the closing date of the competition[1] are invited to submit articles with clarity and authority. There is no stated theme, but should fall within the scope of LIBRI's research focus areas cover the broad area of library and information science, including but not limited to:

(We do not publish articles on scientometrics, bibliometrics, webometrics, altmetrics etc., as there are a number of specialist journals that does so.)

 

Research papers should address one of the significant issues facing today's librarians and information professionals. Case studies, best practices, and pure research papers are all welcome.

 

• Length: 5,000 – 7,000 words (excluding the abstract, tables and list of references)
• Follow the Instructions for Authors linked from the Libri website at https://www.degruyter.com/journal/key/libr/html .
• Papers by multiple authors (be this joint research of a group of students, or of a student plus their supervisor) will not be considered.
• Language: English
• Deadline: June 30, 2022

 

Plagiarism and patch-writing

Plagiarism and patch-writing are not acceptable. All content not the author's own intellectual thought (even if the content paraphrases intellectual property of other researchers) should be properly referenced. All manuscripts are automatically put through similarity detection software, and the results are evaluated by the editors. Manuscripts containing plagiarised material or (excessive) patch-writing will be rejected, without the option of revision or resubmission.

 

The best paper will be selected by an independent panel consisting of selected members of the Editorial Board, the Advisory Board and other international experts. Submissions will be judged on the basis of

 

• originality of thought and observation
• depth of research and scholarship
• topicality of problems addressed
• the international readership of the journal
• the quality of the composition

 

The article will be published in the 2022:4 issue. The author of the winning article will be honoured with an award of 500.00 € and with a complimentary subscription to Libri for 2023.

 

If the quality of competition warrants, some papers may be designated as honourable mention and the authors will receive complementary subscriptions to Libri for 2022. All winners will receive access to e-prints of their winning submission. 

 

Manuscripts should be submitted to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/libri. When submitting a paper for the Best Student Research Paper Award, please choose "Best Student Research Paper Award" at the drop-down menu "Manuscript Type."

 

All submissions should include a cover sheet confirming:

• the name of the institution where the student is or was enrolled
• the degree for which the student is or was enrolled
• the dates when the student is or was enrolled
• the degree/course/module for which the paper was prepared
• the date when the paper was written

 

PLEASE NOTE:

Paper submissions who do not include all the above required elements, as well as do not comply with the content requirements specified, will be disqualified for consideration. All papers will also automatically be screened for plagiarism and patch-writing.
