Unlike any other time in recent history, librarians across the globe, particularly public librarians and library workers, find themselves on the front lines of access work, fighting every day to protect access to information and freedom of expression, the foundational principles of our profession. They do this through protection of materials, policy making, programming and services, big and small advocacy actions and technical practices and expertise.
Whatever your reason for becoming a librarian or staying one, whatever your reason for joining IFLA as a member or volunteer or enthusiast, we are here for you. We hope you enjoy the articles brought to you this month – honouring and showcasing the library worker. |

With the results of the IFLA Elections released on 5 May and preparations continuing to accelerate for the World Library and Information Congress in August, IFLA's leadership has been strongly focused on delivering on these key aspects of our Federation's operations.
Nonetheless, both President Vicki McDonald and Secretary General underlined their appreciation and support for the work of Carla Hayden as Librarian of Congress. Vicki also spoke about the IFLA Trend Report at the South Australian Public Libraries Conference, and sent greetings for the AMBAC (Mexico) and Silk Road International Alliance conferences. Sharon in turn gave speeches at the Europe and Middle East and North Africa Regional Division Committees' mid-term meetings, as well as the Fiesole Retreat in Italy. |

As part of the event, and building on the widespread success of the IFLA-UNESCO Public Library Manifesto — translated into 36 languages—the IFLA-UNESCO School Library Manifesto 2025 was formally approved at the 13th session of the IFAP Council. |

Europe Regional Division Committee mid-term meeting held in Istanbul, Türkiye |

On 12th and 13th of May 2025 the Europe Regional Division Committee organised its mid-term meeting focusing on collaboration opportunities under the theme "Regional Cooperation in the Library Field in Europe". The meeting, which was attended by librarians from across Europe, took place in the beautiful MEF University and Library in Istanbul. |
